Mason Mount and Declan Rice talk up their midfield partnership after England sail past Iceland

Mason Mount and Declan Rice have spoken glowingly about their relationship in midfield after they linked up to help fire England to a comfortable 4-0 win over Iceland. Gareth Southgate went with an attacking line-up as his youthful side impressed at Wembley in their final Nations League group stage clash. Rice opened the scoring for the Three Lions, bagging his first goal for his country with a glanced effort from Phil Foden’s free-kick finding the back of the net. Mount made it 2-0 with a deft finish, while Foden also opened his account for England with two goals to seal the victory for Southgate’s side. Rice has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea and was one of Frank Lampard’s key targets he missed out on back in the summer. The 21-year-old came through at the Blues’ academy alongside childhood friend Mount, and eventually moved to the Hammers when he was released at the age of 14. The pair started together for England on Wednesday night and complimented each other perfectly, with Rice doing the defensive groundwork for the more attacking Mount to thrive. Full article here
