Chelsea prepare to bring John Terry era to a painful and unnecessary conclusion

Unless there is a dramatic change of heart, he is leaving next week. He has also played his last game for the club after being sent off against Sunderland last Saturday. His final act in the club’s colours, therefore, will have been to have had his face in his hands, crouching on the turf before Mike Jones, as the referee showed the red card that means he is suspended for the final two matches of the season.
So it is 703 games – more than 500 as captain – 66 goals and 14 trophies and out for Terry, the captain, leader, legend, unless that last-minute contract is pushed his way. And no one is expecting that.
Instead Terry’s career at Chelsea closes and the unsatisfactory ending of it all seems in keeping with what is a decision that simply does not make sense. It is illogical.
