Carlo Ancelotti comments on Frank Lampard's management at Chelsea
Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said Frank Lampard’s step-up into management was not a surprise and he expects John Terry to follow his former teammate soon.
His return to Stamford Bridge was perhaps not ideal, as his Everton side suffered a devastating 4-0 defeat against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.
But the Italian tactician saw manager material in his former midfielder when the two worked together from 2009 to 2011.
The Everton manager told Sky Sports: “I’m not surprised [to see Lampard as a manager] because as a player, Frank had fantastic tactical qualities.
“I’m waiting now for Terry as a manager, now he’s an assistant, but I think they both have the qualities to be a good manager.
“Of course, Frank is doing really well at Chelsea now.”
Ancelotti was sacked from his position as Chelsea manager one year after winning the domestic double – the Premier League and FA Cup – in 2009/10.
He admitted that he understood Chelsea were eager to make a statement on the European stage back then and he still holds fond memories of Stamford Bridge.
